Some photos

I recently did a mini-shoot of some corsets on my friend and long-term customer and model, [livejournal.com profile] lady_lillith79. Here are the results.

The new Edwardian corset, worn with a black tafetta fishtail skirt. I even made the fascinator. Go me!

I haven't decided whether to cross-post or not yet, as L'Escarpolette just posted a bustle and I don't wish to be accused of copying, despite the fact that I have been making bustles for years and this style in particular for over a month.

Voila, I actually do some work every now and again!

[identity profile] lady-lillith79.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
cross post them

sod what people think

[identity profile] lady-lillith79.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
having seen the one joyce posted, its not a bustle it just looks a load of ribbon suck on the back of the corset

[identity profile] littlepinkfaery.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
I like the new style bustle!!

I was modeling your clothes for Gabi at the weekend- seems great minds think alike!

your PVC never turned up by the way- looks like you need to make a claim at the post office!

[identity profile] the-bats-meow.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my! Marie - that is truly beautiful! I love it!! The model is gorgeous too :D

Now inquiring minds want to know: which pattern did you use for the fishtail skirt? It's to die for!!

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
I use Burda 8252 (I think), I have been using it for years! It's a classic pattern and interest in it never ceases :)

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Typical post office, I opened my mailbox this morning to a load of complaints about things not arriving :/

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
And thank you for the lovely compliments, Laura photographs beautifully and is an excellent model :D

[identity profile] littlepinkfaery.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
look like you need to make a big complaint about them- this is not on, it will effect you name and the post office need to compensate for that. Have you checked to see if anything has returned to you?

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
I have phoned and they're going to check for me.

I made a big complaint about them before and got compensation and several people sacked - they were stealing packages :O I am a bit panicky about it happening again :/

[identity profile] the-bats-meow.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
She looks awesome! Even Florian commented. He said "oh....wie hübsch!" - oh, how pretty!

In the second photo it looks like she is floating over the bridge :P

I am definitely going to check out that Burda pattern. I love their patterns, don't you? Adding the seam allowances can be a pain, but the sizing is always perfect.

[identity profile] the-bats-meow.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
I had a closer look at it. It looks like a series of flounces. I think I have the pattern for that somewhere...

My son says that you are pretty!

[identity profile] littlepinkfaery.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
have you looked into another way of shipping? I know you send lots of parcels, it might be worth it? ( i have no idea how much people like [parcel force charge!)

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've gotten used to adding the seam allowance, I taught myself to cut from blocks and got used to adding SA. I find Burda patterns generally have a better cut and are more adaptable than American patterns. I also prefer their fit, especially in larger sizes, which in American patterns is often quite unflattering.

I have a small pile of Burda patterns which I have used and adapted into garments which sell constantly. Burda have paid my rent many, many times :) I love 'em :D

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about it, what with the postal service being privatised. Ghost is going to research costs etc.

[identity profile] misskitten.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Try using www.parcel2go.com... they have a good postage cost considering what you pay with Royal Mail. They usually use DHL to send things.

Next day delivery is £10.99 but there is a 2 - 3 day option too. Im sure people wouldnt mind paying a little extra to make sure that their gorgeous clothing that they spent good money on, arrives.

I always use them and they are very good. I only had one problem with them once and that was a broken Mannequin head that I posted. They were super quick to compensate and sort the insurance out though :D

[identity profile] misskitten.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
I think my bank balance is going to be very very very very sore very soon... these are gorgeous outfits, absolutely stunning!

And the model is very pretty too :D

I may have to mooch around your website ;p hehe

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Laura shows the items off very well, and shows very emphatically that you don't have to be super-thin to look great!

I'm just about to update the website :)

I think the first corset, the Edwardian one, is going to be the most expensive as it's a lot of work, what with hand-stitching down all the lace. The rest of it's 'affordable' - the fishtail skirts are quite a lightweight tafetta and I price them at £35 a piece for any size.

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, £10.99 isn't too steep, considering the post office sometimes charge £8+ for next day delivery and adequate insurance on a corset! Thanks for the tip :)

[identity profile] misskitten.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think you have £100 compensation straight off the bat for no extra charge... after that there is a little fee :)

You are allowed up to 25kg per parcel, which should be adequate... I mean thats almost has heavy as a TV I think haha!

Glad to help out though :D

[identity profile] rhino-mittens.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Those clothes are simply gorgeous, i can't believe how awesome Laura's hair looks against the natural light/great outdoors etc. It really sets it all off :)

[identity profile] -toxic-candy-.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Gorgeous! I especially like the last outfit :)

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It's amazing that Laura doesn't get more modelling work, as she really is very good at it. Some models are very hung up and can be fussy or picky; Laura isn't and is quite happy to pose under the watchful gaze of dog-walkers, the police (I'm not kidding!) and numerous gawpers without even blinking. She also braved some fairly rough terrain in rather flimsy shoes, which went above and beyond the call of duty in my opinion!

I will be pestering you soon, with your height, hair, and how photogenic you are you would be an excellent model :)

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It's just a pity we didn't get sorted for you to come over, as I had a stunning red outfit for you to model.

We shall sort something out one of these days, even if it involved bundling you into the van!

[identity profile] rhino-mittens.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe i'm imagining a team of rozzers in their neon yellow coats standing behind the camera out of shot now...
Feel free to pester as and when you need to, the closest I'm come to doing any modelling would be when those photographers grabbed me at Whitby last year but i'd be more than happy to help out :)

[identity profile] ms-destruction.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry I stumbled across your journal via [livejournal.com profile] corsetry_uk and have to say your work is beautiful!!

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fine, don't be sorry! Thank you for your lovely compliment :)

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe i'm imagining a team of rozzers in their neon yellow coats standing behind the camera out of shot now...

Hahahaha, that's exactly what Laura was looking at in the first picture! Someone popped off a couple of shots, and with it being a wildlife preserve the police were down to investigate, in bright yellow jackets :D

[identity profile] lady-lillith79.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
you lot make me blush

thank you for the lovley comments

i can cope with crap ground, gun shots and people watching but not big fat bumble bees :) we got a funny pic of me being scared by the bumbles

[identity profile] robo-toda.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If you haven't done it yet, i've done a photoshoppery of the pic with the bad background, just to really flatten it. It isn't online yet, though.

[identity profile] l00py-l0rna.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I am in love with the skull corset and the bustle skirt to match! Keep up the good work! Lx

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you see the fab photoshop someone did on corsetry of you?

I didn't post the pic from you being scared by the bumblebee, just you disdainfully eyeing the coppers :D

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, thank you! I am very rubbish with photoshop :/

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks L, hope you are feeling a bit better?

[identity profile] l00py-l0rna.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I feel a little better. I will be in Newcastle on Saturday to see the Damned. Is that near you, will you be there? Lx

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's near me, but I'm not going.:/

[identity profile] the-mollisher.livejournal.com 2007-04-23 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I just wandered over from [livejournal.com profile] corsetry so you don't know me, but your work is lovely!

How much are you selling the style of bustle shown in the last photo for?

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2007-04-23 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi there, thank you for your lovely compliment :)

I have the bustle overskirt up in my ebay shop, here's a direct link:

[identity profile] the-mollisher.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantastic - thanks! Will be back in touch soon - I have a book launch to plan for, so I'm buying the clothes over the space of a few months to spread the cost. :)
