Weddings and other stuff.

So anyway, I think I've mentioned before that I am desperate to get married, but getting made redundant last year and the erratic nature of being self-employed may have put an end to the plans for a bit.

Yesterday I had a look at the places in my area which are licensed to perform civil ceremonies. It's a long story, but I was raised Catholic and Ghost is United Reform. We could get married in the local United Reform church, but it has all the charm and grace of an aircraft hangar, and having waited this long to get married I can hold out a little longer for a nice venue. I thought a nice venue would cost the earth. Only, they don't. I've found somewhere that if you get married during the week, they give you the room for free. There's a local hotel called The Raven licensed for civil ceremonies! I've found a nice venue, which will hold enough people, for £250. And I've found a local CASTLE where you can get married in stately splendour, for £350!!!! I was expecting at least triple that. This now gives me a goal.

My wedding won't be too expensive, as I will make all the outfits myself, I can get the flowers wholesale with a single trip to Manchester, I know enough graphic designers to get a good deal on the invitations. What will cost me is a photographer (urg, I'm so not photogenic, that's the bit I'm dreading), the reception and the wedding venue. Having said that, I may be able to persuade Jordan, of www.darkview.co.uk to do it, he's an amazing photographer and a great bloke. So I now know the wedding venue will be nowhere near as expensive as I thought! And before you all say, what about the honeymoon, I have resigned myself to not having one. [livejournal.com profile] kev36663 and [livejournal.com profile] setvenharis know why. Besides, what I really want is the total cliche of a trip to Transylvania. I don't care if it's a cliche, it's what I want.

I have a list of wants that is a complete cliche and I don't care. I want to get married on Hallowe'en, I want Mina's red dress from Dracula, I want to get married somewhere atmospheric (Like a castle) and I want a honeymoon in Transylvania. Ghost's family are very supportive, and my family, well, let's not go there.

So those are my thoughts for the day. I got another pile of packages this morning, the postman thinks it's my birthday! lol. Now I'm off, to sew more PVC and play with my new trims :) It takes so little to make me happy, new lace and I'm in heaven, what a sad cow I am!

You ought to have the wedding that you really want, so hold out for it!! All sounds perfectly reasonable to me, anyway!!

Who cares if its a cliche? I'd love something like that. The people who look down on it are the sort who act as though they hate it because its a "goth cliche" but are seriously thinking deep-down, "OMG lucky cow, I want that!".

Go for what you want honey, it sounds fantastic! :)

Ooooh! Do you have any details about these venues? I've had a similar dilemma. Religion gives me hives so a church is out, but I'm way too much of a drama queen to be able to contemplate a wedding in a poky little registry office. And most licensed venues seem to cost the earth. Everything else I can do on the cheap.

We really wanna go to Japan for our honeymoon, but that's a little way out of our price range heh. So we'll probably end up going somewhere in Europe or something.

I got them through here :

http://www.durham.gov.uk/durhamcc/usp.nsf/pws/Registrar+-+Approved+Premises+for+Marriages+in+County+Durham

You could probably get them for your area by either doing a search or checking with your local council, I think I got this through www.confetti.co.uk which is a bit of a crappy wedding site.

Ghost has been having a peruse today, and I think we will go for the music room at Bowes Museum if we can :) We obviously want to have a look around a few places, but from the pictures, I liked this one best :)

It's just a pity we're getting married down here, the main registry office in Glasgow (my home town) is a listed Italian marble architectural marvel! The local one is a bit, well, generic :/

you do right to hold out for what you *really* want... people tried to talk me out of having a 3-tier black wedding cake, but i insisted... and needless to say, all the doubters were impressed to say the least!!! i love the sound of the red dress too :)

*sigh* I can't wait to get married! When I do I'll be sitting dreaming up a zillion cliches to make the perfect wedding. It's the one day when you can plan it all from beginning to end and have it just as you want it :) Wedding cliches are one of the things you're entitled to as a women - hell, every white wedding in a church is a cliche!
