Pink corset dress, new skull corset

I had to make this, so you all have to bear witness to the full horror that is.... the pink satin and black lace corset mini dress of doom.

I missed Charnel House for this bloody garment!

And now you have suffered the horror, I will show you something nicer :)

OMG - what does this woman look like? I can only imagine..........

Question: how did you do the ruching?

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I took a two metre strips of satin, 6 inches wide, and gathered it. I then pressed it, and basted the pattern piece cut out in cotton fabric to the back, then trimmed off the excess. I then inserted the panel as normal :)

She actually looked stunning, she is 5 foot 9 and a size 10, with a dark tan and very dark colouring (she's Romany). I have to say that whilst I hate it with a passion, she looked great, although she wouldn't let me take photos as she wasn't wearing make-up and her hair wasn't done!

With a gathering foot? Or a ruffler?

I always did it the old fashioned way - cording covered with zigzags. I bought a ruffler and a gathering foot, but I haven't used them yet.
Well, I did use the ruffler - it ate my fabric :(

I did it with cording and zig zags. I do use the ruffler foot on the overlocker, but I was worried about bulk on the seams so used the old-fashioned method :)

The ruffle foot on the overlocker allows me to make these in hours rather than days :

I couldn't make the big net skirts without that, and they paid for my overlocker!

The ruffle foot on my standard machine is rubbish, if I hadn't gotten it free with the machine I would have asked for my money back!

I am looking at a couple of Overlock machines. What do you have?

I've got a Toyota, it's just home model. I can find out the model number if you want? It's pretty good, I've had it about a year now with no problems at all, and I use it every day.

The dress is a gorgeous pattern but that colour is a bit 'garish'!

*drools at red skull corset*

Yeah, I had a couple of people say when I had it on the stall that if it had been purple or black it would have been much nicer!

I can see that design going down a storm, in slightly calkmer colours!

I love pink but thats a bit much!

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It did come out really well, and to be fair she did look great in it. The pink and white camouflage actually came out looking absolutely the business, so I might go for camo in pink/ purple/ black-white and see how that goes!

Woah that pink is a bit strong, but its still a pretty style :) Lovely stuff! You know i'm gonna ask you to make me some stuff for Infest..oh yes..and i'm afraid it may involve pink....*hides*

So long as it's not the amount I had to make for this girl, I ran through 2000m of thread there was so much of it! I made two of those corset dresses, one in pink camouflage and that one, a dress with pink trim, gloves with pink trim, two skirts and matching tops with pink trim, you name it, it was fecking pink. As soon as I produced the fabric she wanted in pink, it was just order after order of it until the fabric and her budget was out.

And yes, I have plenty of pink camouflage fabric left. Wanna see? :D

[identity profile] pandaemonaeum.livejournal.com 2006-06-15 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that's what I thought about the whole time I was sewing it!
