Titania, Queen of the Faeries
I decided to start my Hallowe'en costume early this year, after madly sewing fake fur to PVC for 2 days before LAST Hallowe'en. In keeping with a suggested 'Queens' theme, I decided to be Titania. I've come up with an autumnal colours palate, and for the first time in my life I made a head-dress, using fake flowers, leaves and other plant-looking stuff I acquired from a fake flower warehouse, and florist's tape, and I am quite pleased with the result.
I am less pleased with the actual work I am doing on the dress. I got a crafts book and quite liked some of the ideas, however a decision to embroider and applique moth shapes from 2 tone (gold/ grey) velvet has been less than successful, as my sewing machine is not an embroidery machine, and has taken a temperamental fit when faced with metallic threads :( I'm hoping the dragonflies are more successful as they are being made from tafetta (blue/ green and green/purple). I may have to ditch the idea of embroidered velvet ivy leaves, unless they meet with a little more success than the moths :/ The current plan is to have a corset with a fitted bodice over, which will be covered in leaves, moths, dragonflies, feathers, etc. I'm going to be extremely hot, but hopefully it will look good :)
The skirt should be nice and easy to make, if a little unwieldy to wear, as I am going to make petals and leaves from chiffon, adding hanging ribbon and leaves etc among the layers. I will wear this over a basic black satin crin and petticoat, making me about 4 times as wide as usual and wondering how I'm getting there in a small car, but one must suffer etc. etc. :)
I should point out I currently don't plan to enter into any costume competitions this year; I'm only judging one. Maybe next year I'll buy off the rack!

What I need is you to email me Carl's measurements again, as they are in my old email. I have made up a toile but I want to re-check it against the measurements before I cut into the main fabric, in case I have made any errors in calculating the cut. Can you also add what colour lining he wanted? I have your address; that's in Paypal and I have it on the box of my lovely hairpiece too :)
