A bit upset
I went over to the WGW forum to have a bit of a look. I have currently misplaced my password so I don't post there much anyway, and besides there are a couple of people on there who just put my blood pressure up.
Of course, I wound up with my blood pressure up anyway :/
There's some nasty stuff being said about Olivia Barnard Firth (the Wicked Lady) on there, which I found quite upsetting. Olivia encouraged me from my first trip to the Whitby Dracula Society/ WGW to start my own business, she has been incredibly nice and supportive to me, and is unfailingly lovely, even in the face of incredible rudeness and appalling behaviour. I treat Olivia as an example of how I would like to be, she is so gracious to people, even when they are spilling drinks on her/ almost setting light to her outfits/ pushing her out of the way out of sheer bad manners. So I get quite upset when I see people saying revolting things about her. OK, there have been occasions when she has had a 'bodyguard'. I can actually only think of one; she was wearing some jewellery belonging to Count Alexander (Baron Von Berghasy). It was an incredibly old, ornate and beautiful diamond necklace, which I will covet shamelessly until they put me in the ground. It was so valuable that she had to have a bodyguard with her for insurance purposes. He was actually a very nice man, despite the large holster on his shoulder.
She is also part of a small group, who all have a kind of 'trench' mentality, from the bloody awful stuff screamed at us during WGW 1998, due to our shocking crime of liking vampires and wearing fangs. One of them, another good friend of mine, is a huge bloke, who commended me on my bravery for wearing my fangs that weekend, as he had actually been afraid to. Olivia and I flaunted ours proudly, because no-one tells us what to wear.
I am quite disheartened that even at the goth weekend ill-mannered people scream abuse at others, in the same manner that townies and chavs do. How incredibly rude.
As to Olivia not being a goth, the last time I looked, she was in a goth band (Beautiful Deadly Children).
So I don't think I'll go back there for a while. And I'm glad I don't have Spa tickets, and have to suffer such childish behaviour.

I think she is great, she is so helpful and friendly- my corset busk came though one time and she took it from me and mended it while she traded.
Yes she like to look the best there, but she has the skills to do it.I don't liek people bad mouthing her at all- jealousy is a terrible thing.

Apparently it's okay to shout "Look that woman has a peacock up her a*se" at Olivia, for her spectacular peacock outfit, and she's not entitled to go into the Spa if her outfit takes up more than X amount of floor-space.
I keep going off into full-blown rant about this. I mean, if I wear my 1880s bustle, I need about 4 feet of clearance to the rear. Am I not entitled to go into the Spa then?
You know, nearly everyone I know has a story about how lovely, how helpful, how sweet and kind Olivia is, and I have only heard her raise her voice once, when a drunk idiot threw up an inch from her white velvet gown. Some of these people need to learn from her example instead of bad-mouthing her.

Sadly, you are correct, people are fickle. And you are also correct in that Olivia would treat this in the way it deserves, and ignore it.

it is just nasty, and jealousy, no one looked at their little outfits when Olivia was in the room.
But if they could be arsed to learn to sew and spend 6 months making a costume then maybe they too would get their picture taken!
people are bitter and a lot of goths think themselves better than anyone else and will assume that someone who looks "OTT" to be a nasty person and they will take the piss.
They forget that that person has feelings and works hard and has been part of the scene for a very long time- she has done it all and made it all and re invents her product and keeps going.
The people that have a go don't have the talent to od anything individual- bitter taste in thier mouths don't you think?
I stand by the statement that she is a lovely person, I don't know her terribly well but Gabi does and she loves her to bits!

I know what you mean about how good she looks, I've seen her hungover, on a Sunday morning, with no make-up or wig, and in street clothes, and she STILL looks stunning.
I adore the dress with the flapping bats, it's the closest I have ever come to ripping off someone else's idea! I so want a dress with flapping bats attached :)

I completely agree about the 'ripping someone else to shreds' part, I just keep hoping that people have grown beyond it! I might have the occasional "omg wtf?" moment about people, but I wouldn't dream of following them around screaming abuse, nor would I push into or past someone in an elaborate outfit. I am also careful to say to people who have obviously made an effort how much I admire their outfit/ hair/ etc because I do, I think anyone who makes the effort deserves to have that effort recognised :)
I am calming myself down with ghost shaped Halloween chocolate :D

they need to grow up
its going to be one of those "if you dress up you dont anything about the music" thing again is in it
there going to start accusing all of us who make an effort "dress up goths"
oh and the ones who made the comment about the peacock are just jealous as they dont know how do make or wear anything that amasing
to some people seeing olivas outfit is one of the high lights of the night at the spa, i love her dresses the bat on and the boat hat one were both amazing

I got a photo of her in the most exquisite outfit I had ever seen 2 years ago and she was pleasant to me, posed and even thanked me for taking the photo! I did not find her obnoxious or anything.
Fair dos, they live an alternative lifestyle and have a little following, good on them I say and the beautiful Deadly Children rock! Lx
